"The way we talk to ourselves inside directs us to the path we walk on."
Do you feel different in the world, alone, and like no one understands you truly? Are you seeking a safe place where you can explore your innermost thoughts and get to know yourself so you can better understand who you are? Do you consider yourself neurodivergent? Do you want to find yourself on a journey to live a life more meaningful, with purpose, and shining your light in confidence? Hi, I am Mimi. Growing up, I was a first-generation Caribbean kid spending time outdoors, yearning for community, and trying to figure out how I could make a difference in the world.
My parents taught us the best of what they knew, but the rest was for us to learn. I grew up feeling different and like I did not belong because of how I grew up and the way that I thought about life. It's been a journey to discovering the pain that I held, and through learning I had acquired medical conditions, I discovered that I had to choose to shift my mindset and actions to align more with positive well-being. Unlike counseling, my approach in life coaching is to listen, but let's also make a plan together, let's go somewhere together, and let's get out in nature to heal.

The Experiences That Shaped Me
After graduating from high school, I knew I wanted to pursue my education to learn more, but I struggled to understand what path to choose. Before I knew it, I found a passion for human connection and understanding why we do the things we do, and I received my associate's degree in behavioral science and studied human behavior in psychology and sociology and across the lifespan and development courses. Later, I found my way to graduating with a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Houston–Clear Lake and working as a career advisor during my undergraduate studies. I enjoyed the photography classes that took me outdoors, the graphic design classes that showed me how to think creatively, and the psychology courses to understand diverse populations. For over the course of 10 years, or a decade, I served in educational outreach as a career guide, tutor, mentor, school administrator, teacher, photographer, marketing and communication specialist, and success coach for students at Deer Park High School, San Jacinto College, University of Houston-Clear Lake, Austin Community College, San Marcos High School, Cultivate Behavioral Health Education, and Texas State University. After facing some adversity during the pandemic, including losing a loved one to covid-19, an uncle passing to stage 4 cancer, an aunt on a journey to treating breast cancer and a grandmother diagnosed with dementia, I then went on to pursue my Master of Science in Recreation Therapy to find a way to contribute in the medical field and received my life coaching certification and mindfulness in nature certification, which has given me the tools to help others find their way to setting goals for a more positive well-being through mindfulness, self-reflection, and recreation.
What led me to a path of healing
My family had endured hardships due to generational poverty and lack of educational resources . This led me to struggle with my health. I was battling generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, gastrointestinal digestive issues, and ADHD. Into my adulthood, I began experiencing patterns of sickness, uncertain of my purpose, and difficulty managing mental burnout. This impacted my ability to thrive and would leave me often falling into a depression. There were many times that I would have to recite my story to friends and family why they hadn't heard from me in a while. That is when I started to build awareness that something was wrong. I developed a deep understanding of what I was going through by pursuing therapy. During this time, I had introspection to what I was facing. I decided to educate myself further so that I could transition to experience life on a higher vibration.
Through nutrition and lifestyle changes I created a healthier life. Most of the time a healthy decision looks like knowing where to put my energy, and understanding what motivates me and what keeps me interested because half the time what keeps you interested can facilitate purpose in your health goals. After a few years in Colorado and now Kyle, TX, I discovered the holistic practice of Rec Therapy. Rec Therapy is the practice of improving your quality of life through activities that is utilized as an intervention to meet you where you are to make a change in your social, emotional, cognitive, physical or spiritual health. I am very passionate about being a person who says "I can" instead of "I can't" and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience a meaningful life that they can have control over despite the medical condition being faced.
